Snorkel Booze Hunt: Caribbean Resort Lets Guests Snorkel For Rum

Like snorkeling? Like alcohol?: Why not go snorkeling for booze? A Caribbean resort offers just that.

Those who visit the Bolongo Bay Beach resort in St. Thomas can participate in a Snorkel Booze Hunt. Once a week, snorkelers are able to participate in a special hunt for a bottle of rum on the sea of the US Virgins Islands.

For the past 30 years, the family-owned resort holds a weekly rum scavenger hunt. The resort hides a bottle of Cruzan Rum in the ocean. Cruzan is the local rum of the US Virgin Islands and it is distilled on the nearby island of St. Croix. Resort guests have a one in two chance of finding a bottle of the rum as half the number of bottles as there are guests are strategically placed on the ocean floor by resort staff.

This activity is open to hotel guests and the resort provides complimentary use of snorkel equipment so guests don't have to bring their own. The best part is that guests get to keep the bottle once they find it. Guests from all over the world visit the resort and participate in this unique experience.

The activity is open to all guests but guests can also book their own private booze hunt which makes it a fun group activity for those celebrating a special occasion.

Guests who find more than one bottle are encouraged to leave the second bottle hidden so others can have a chance. Those who don't get a bottle can still have a taste of local rum as the resort bar above ground.
