Oktoberfest 2012: Inaugural Oktoberfest Celebration Comes to New York City

Not everyone can make it to Munich to celebrate the real Oktoberfest this year, but luckily, there are places all over the world that celebrate the German festival of good food, good beer, oompah bands and lederhosen. This year, New York City will be celebrating with its very own Oktoberfest!

To mirror the actual 16-day Oktoberfest that takes place in Munich, New York City's Oktoberfest will run from September 22- October 7. This huge celebration is presented by LIVEstyle Entertainment and is sponsored by Beck's Beer and Jagermeister.

The celebration will take place at 1 Penn Plaza near Madison Square Garden in Manhattan and admission is free.

Although this is the inaugural event, over 30,000 people are expected to attend the event that celebrates authentic German traditions and tasty food and drinks. There will be plenty of entertainment available and it is sure to be a good time.

OktoberfestNYC is shaping up to be pretty impressive. It takes place in a 6000 sq-ft tented beer garden and on an adjacent roof deck, patio and inside bars at Local West, for a total of 10,000 sq-feet of party space.

One of the main attractions of the event will be the alcohol. The festival will feature the best beers from Munich breweries including craft beers as well as Beck's, St. Pauli Girl, and Lowenbrau. The bar will be stocked with plenty of beverages to choose from such as specialty Oktoberfest cocktails and shots that include Jagermeister.

Another main feature will be the food of course. The beer garden will feature classic German cuisine and there will event by Hoppelpoppel brunches on the weekends. There will also be special football brunches on the weekends as the games will be broadcasted on large projection screens and TV's.

To go along with the food and beer, there will be plenty of entertainment. Nightly entertainment includes authentic German folk bands, other live music, fashion shows and other events related to German culture.

For those who want to go in groups, there is reserved table seating with F&B packages that suit groups on 6-10. These table packages cost $60- $100 per person and include reserved tables, food and beverage packages, open bar options and souvenirs. The packages include the $70 Silver Package, the $85 Harvest Package and the $100 Stein Package. Packages can be booked in advance online.

There are also private reserved areas for large groups on 20-100.

If you'd like to remember this special occasion, souvenirs and merchandise are available to purchase at the event.

The hours of the event include Saturday and Sundays from 11 a.m. to midnight. The German brunch is held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Monday-Friday, the event is held from 5 p.m. to midnight.
