‘Walking Dead’ Season 5 Beth Actress Emily Kinney On Character’s Death: ‘I Was Really Sad On Set'

'The Walking Dead' Beth actress Emily Kinney has recently opened up about her character's death on Season 5's midseason finale. The 29-year-old actress-recording artist dished some interesting bits on when she found out about Beth's demise and who are the people she's going to miss working with.

As you may have known (seen) now, 'Walking Dead' Beth actress Emily Kinney is not part of the hit zombie apocalypse-themed series anymore. The shocking midseason finale on Sunday, Nov. 30, showed us her dramatic departure from a role she portrayed for nearly four year, as well as her one-way departure from the series.

With many fans talking about the heartbreaking scene when she got shot in the head while in the verge of a supposed to be pleasing reunion with Rick Grimes and the rest, it is not surprising that many are mourning over Beth Greene's death.

Interestingly, 'Walking Dead' Beth actress Emily Kinney admitted that she too was a little surprised about her character's fate, adding that she avoided reading the midseason finale episode script at first to prepare emotionally.

"I found out the day that the script came out. They came to me and told me before everyone else in the cast. I wanted to avoid reading it at first, because the next day I had to do all my scenes for episode seven," she told Us Weekly. "Not to mention I wasn't really excited to see what was going to happen. I just stayed focused on that first. I had a little while to emotionally prepare... at least a little while. "

Speaking about the moment she found out about Beth's imminent death, Kinney could't help but admit that she "was pretty sad."

"I really had no idea [that Beth was going to die]," said the "Concussion" star. "I know it's happened like this in the past but for some reason I thought, 'Oh, they would tell me.' I really didn't know, so I was very sad and just dealing with, 'What am I going to do with all my stuff?' All the little stuff that you go through with a big change like that. It was quite a few years of my life."

As heartbreaking as it already was, the 'Walking Dead' Beth actress also revealed that she did not sleep while processing her character's impending doom and that she was mostly really sad while filming her last scenes.

"I didn't really sleep. I don't think people could tell. I just went about my business and as people would reach out I would tell them how sad I was to leave. I do remember being really sad on set. It was difficult for me to be there, but I put my head down and did the scenes," she said.

Kinney went on to reveal that show runner Scott Gimple didn't explain to her why Beth was being axed from the storyline.

"I had a meeting with [showrunner] Scott Gimple and it was very sad. He didn't explain why [Beth was being killed off], but he said it was something he had been planning since season four. I was very upset.," she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Despite the sadness she felt while filming her finale episode on the show, Kinney dished that she intended to give her best at it since "it's my last chance to give a really kick-ass performance."

When Entertainment Weekly asked her if she has seen the midseason finale episode, the 'Walking Dead' Beth actress honestly answered that she couldn't watch it. "I don't feel like it would be fun to watch myself. It feels a little painful."

So who will Kinney miss most on the hit AMC series? "Probably the people. Because I feel like we've all become such good friends and they've made me a better actor. Not just the other actors, but all the people I've gotten to work with. They're all really passionate people and really inspire me," she finally said.
