Diem Brown has been battling cancer for ten years now. She gave those who do not believe that she is strong enough to handle her condition a very simple message, but one that has certainly packed a punch.
Diem Brown recently told PEOPLE only a week before her latest setback, "You can count me out all you want. But I'm not out. I'm fighting. I want to be here."
The 32-year-old MTV reality star was hospitalized in New York City last Friday in the hopes of relieving the debilitating pain that she has recently been experiencing. She described the chronic pain as "like a broken tailbone, it's unending."
The symptoms that Diem Brown has been manifesting are so severe that she is now down to only 100 pounds, which is 15 fewer than the weight that she needs in order to get a head start on her chemotherapy that has been scheduled later this month.
On Monday, her doctors scheduled her for an insertion of a urine-drainage tube, which will be inserted into her kidney. This procedure is in an effort to relieve the persistent pain and swelling from numerous tumors and blockages.
Still, the star of "The Challenge" says that she was only able to find relief in one hot-button treatment, and that would be medical marijuana.
"I asked my doctor about t, and I'll be totally honest - I had never smoked before in my life," Diem Brown informed PEOPLE before she was recently brought to the hospital. "But, I kept hearing everyone mention it. I'm taking all these synthetic drugs and they're not working. So, I thought, 'I want to try it.'"
Diem Brown now has a medical marijuana card, of which was only permitted to be used in New York last July. "I did the vaporizer and it took away the pain and I finally felt like I was able to eat," she shared. "That's what got me a pound higher. It's the only thing that helps."
